When to Seek Professional Help for Wounds

Wound care is a critical aspect of overall health, especially when dealing with injuries that do not heal as expected. While some minor cuts and scrapes can be treated at home, there are situations where seeking professional help is essential. Understanding when to consult a healthcare provider can prevent complications and ensure a quicker recovery.

If a wound shows signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, warmth, or pus, it’s crucial to seek medical attention. These symptoms indicate that the body is not managing the wound effectively on its own. Additionally, if the wound is deep, the edges cannot be brought together, or if it’s caused by a dirty or rusty object, seeing a doctor is necessary to prevent further issues.

Chronic wounds that do not show significant healing progress within a week or two also require professional evaluation. Conditions like diabetes, poor circulation, or immune system disorders can complicate wound healing, making it vital to get specialized care. A healthcare provider can offer advanced treatments that promote healing and prevent infections.

Another important factor is the wound’s location. Injuries on the face, hands, or joints should be assessed by a professional to ensure proper healing and minimize scarring or loss of function. Prompt treatment in these cases can prevent long-term complications and improve outcomes.

If you or a loved one are unsure whether a wound requires professional attention, don’t hesitate to reach out. At Wound Docs, we are committed to providing the highest quality wound care services, ensuring you receive the necessary support for optimal healing.

Ejaz Kamboj, M.D. Board Certified Cardiovascular Wound Care Specialist

Ejaz Kamboj, MD, is the Medical Director of Wound Docs. He is a Board Certified Cardiovascular and Wound specialist. He was the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas from 1999-2003 and was an assistant professor of cardiovascular diseases.

The majority of the wounds are vascular in origin. Vascular damage is at the core of tissue injury and wound formation. Unfortunately, there is a lack of understanding of the cardiovascular aspect of wound healing. This has resulted in the current practice of “wound maintenance,” which is unfortunately harmful to the patients. The goal should be wound healing.

Dr. Kamboj has the advantage of being a cardiovascular specialist and, therefore, provides comprehensive care by rapidly healing wounds, minimizing infection, hospitalization, wound recurrence, and permanent scarring. We have encountered unfortunate patients who have had non-healing wounds for more than 30 years.

At Wound Docs, Dr. Kamboj personally evaluates and supervises his staff with all wounds. He visits patients at home and provides his personal cell phone and email to all the staff involved in the care of the patient. He is available anytime via text, phone, or email. This practice develops a good working relationship with the staff and provides patient-centric care.
